Mental Health Counselor Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Encompass Adoptees is hiring therapists in OHIO (LPC, LPCC, LSW, LSIW, or credential in expressive arts therapies- for telehealth/in-person), ARIZONA (LPC or LPCC, telehealth), and/or MINNESOTA (LPC or LPCC, for telehealth).

The position provides multi-need individuals and families with direct mental health services, including clinical assessments, diagnoses, and therapeutic treatment. Candidates will be required to develop trauma-informed and strength-based treatment plans, as well as maintain professional documentation and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure quality care. The role includes active participation in supervision and consultation, ongoing training, and adherence to professional and ethical standards established by the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist Board (OCSWMFT), American Counseling Association (ACA), and National Association of Social Workers (NASW). 

We are seeking therapists passionate about continual learning and compassionately working with clients to address trauma, grief, attachment injuries, anxiety, and relationship difficulties. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Licensure:

  • Master’s degree in Clinical Counseling, Social Work, or related field

  • Active LPC or LPCC license through the MN or AZ state board, or active LPC, LPCC, LSW, or LISW license through the OCSWMFT Board

  • Be/or become an active member of the Counseling Compact and register in all current states https://counselingcompact.gov/map/  (LPCC in OH, AZ, MN)

Experience:

  • Experience in clinical mental health counseling or social work

  • Familiarity with community mental health and community resources

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Previous training/or interest in attaining training specific to trauma, attachment, grief, and/or adoption & foster care

Professional Skills:

  • Ability to build rapport with clients

  • Strong ability to work and learn as a team

  • Solid ability to take initiative 

  • Ability to professionally address conflicts and difficult content in sessions and with the team

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Ability to manage deadlines and personal schedule

  • Ability to operate in an Internet-based office environment

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer are required

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Naturally, is a continual learner who regularly participates in reading and training, in addition to required CEUs

  • Experience with specific populations (children, substance abuse, trauma, adoptees, grief).

  • Lived experience as an individual who was adopted, fostered, or raised in kinship care (by aunt, grandmother, friend, etc) or has lived experience as an adoptive, foster, or kinship parent/ caregiver. 

  • Participates or participated in personal therapy; has worked through a difficult situation 

  • Self-aware of personal and professional limitations and scope of practice

  • Takes initiative; Self-motivated

  • Takes an active approach with clients; balances active listening and empowering client agency in conversation and play. 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build rapport and establish open communication for clients

  • Provide person-centered and trauma-informed therapy

  • Conduct accurate case conceptualization, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment 

  • Collaborate with additional treatment providers

  • Complete all clinical documentation in a timely manner

  • Maintain continuing education through trainings, conferences, and reading relevant literature that specifically pertains to the Encompass Adoptees population

  • Participate in peer/case review, supervision, and other quality improvement activities

  • Self-market to maintain clinical caseload (ex. Psychology Today)

POSITION DETAILS:

  • Part-time (minimum 10 hrs/wk billable productivity) with potential to move to full-time

  • 1099 Contract 

  • Telehealth and/or in-person

  • Competitive pay based on experience and level of training

  • Work with clients who have experienced attachment injury and or various traumas, including separation from first families
