2025 ADOPTEE Art Show

November 1, 5-9 pm

Join us for the 3rd annual Encompass Adoptees art show, showcasing the unique voices and perspectives of those who have been adopted, fostered, or in kinship care (AFK) through expressive art making. These exhibitions provide a platform for AFK individuals to express their identities, stories, and emotions through various art forms, ranging from painting and poetry to felting and mixed media. By highlighting the diverse experiences of AFK people, Encompass art shows offer a space to foster understanding and empathy within the broader community, encouraging dialogue about the complexities of adoption. The pieces often delve into themes such as belonging, loss, personal history, and the effects of trauma. This honesty and vulnerability offer both the artist and the viewers an opportunity to engage with the multifaceted nature of AFK experiences. Such events not only honor the creativity and strength of AFK individuals but also contribute to a richer cultural conversation about family and identity.

2024 Adoptee Art Show

What does it mean ‘to belong’? How does loss affect belonging? How does our ability to accept and belong to ourselves affect our belonging with others? How do our early childhood experiences shape our sense of belonging/ connection to ourselves and with others?

Immerse yourself in art created in a wide variety of mediums that explores the depths of belonging and how it intertwines with relinquishment/removal/birth-family separation, generational trauma, understanding ourselves, having relationships, and participating in societal and bionormative expectations. Pieces are created by over 18 artists who are adult or teen adoptees, as well as several special guests with adjacent experiences.
