Utilizing therapeutic concepts, information regarding the neuroscience of grief, and real-world experiences of Disenfranchised Grief, participants will come away with a new understanding of how Disenfranchised Grief affects their lives and informs their thoughts!  Take away ideas will be given to help the individuals talk about their emotions, support the process of grieving, and to understand that where there is deep love, there will be deep grief.   We will share ideas to help caregivers talk to their adopted children about the concept of Disenfranchised Grief. 

This presentation is designed for audience members with an intermediate skill level/familiarity with the topic.

Presenter Bio:

Janet Nordine is a Nevada Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, A Registered Play Therapist Supervisor with The Association for Play Therapy, and Nevada Board Approved Supervisor for Marriage and Family Therapist and Clinical Professional Counselor interns.She works with adults, children, and families from all walks of life to achieve their goals. Janet is a faculty member with The West Coast Institute for Gestalt Therapy with Children and Adolescents where she provides training from the Gestalt perspective.  Janet has a special interest in attachment and interpersonal neurobiology and uses neuroscience-informed therapy with all clients.  Play is an integral part of therapy with each client. She is a sought-after teacher, presenter, facilitator, and podcast guest. She often presents on the topics of the importance of play, working with the inner self, and adoption-related topics. 

Janet has a special place in her heart for children in foster care and children who are adopted.  She is an expert in adoption as she has been adopted her whole life, which gives her special insights into the needs of children and adults who have experienced relinquishment and disconnect from their families of origin.  

 Janet has lived in Las Vegas her entire life. In a “previous life,” she worked in the Las Vegas hotel industry and understands the unique culture of the city. She has interests in the local food scene, live Theatre, travel and loves to read, write, and explore life through lived experiences. She is a wife and mother to 2 amazing adult children and one really cute dog.
